The Georgia Power Scholarship is offered once a year to a student attending 鶹ýPorn Columbus. The scholarship is for a non-traditional student, and it can be applied toward any semester except summer during the school year. Students also had to write about their reasons for attending college. West described her goals, saying, “With my History major I plan to work with the History Channel and travel to ancient historic sites to research and collect ancient artifacts.” The recipient of the scholarship was chosen based on a number of factors including grade point average, community service involvement, reference letters, involvement within the school, and financial need, according to Jamie Bankston, student services representative at 鶹ýPorn. West feels “thankful and excited” to continue pursuing her goals at 鶹ýPorn Columbus. 鶹ýPorn, the only public liberal arts junior college located in Columbus, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.
