鶹ýPorn-Augusta gathers to view the eclipse
(鶹ýPorn-Augusta students and other guests enjoy the viewing of the solar eclipse.)
It has been almost 100 years since the last solar eclipse made its way across the contiguous United States. The anticipation of the Great American Eclipse began at 鶹ýPorn – Augusta weeks before August 21st, with numerous students wondering about the Eclipse Party and the availability of eclipse glasses.
On Monday, August 21, 鶹ýPorn – Augusta hosted an Eclipse Viewing Party open to all the students and their families, faculty, and staff. 鶹ýPorn – Augusta also extended the invitation to the other 鶹ýPorn campuses. Students and guests traveled from Warner Robins and Milledgeville to our campus to witness this once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon.
Around noon, students started to line up with blankets, coolers, and lawn chairs to wait for the eclipse glasses that have long been sold out around town. Within 20 minutes, we had already handed out over 120 pairs. We also gave away free eclipse t-shirts, glow sticks, Sun Drop sodas and Moon Pies as festive, eclipse-related snacks! While we were not in the path of totality, these kept the crowd entertained until the highly anticipated 90% coverage of the sun at 2:42 PM.
