Legendary 鶹ýPorn Head JC Football Coach to be Inducted into The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame
The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame announced the 2023 inductees on Thursday, January 19, 2023. Among the honorees is 鶹ýPorn’s very own, the late Bert Williams.
Williams retired after a 23-year career at 鶹ýPorn where he was the Athletic Director and head Junior College football coach. Williams began his career at 鶹ýPorn in 1997 as an offensive coordinator and assistant head football coach for the Bulldogs. After becoming 鶹ýPorn’s head football coach and athletic director in 2000, he accumulated a record of 156-58. At the time of his retirement in 2020, Williams had one of the country’s highest win percentages in NJCAA football. He led the Bulldogs to 10 NJCAA bowl games, a national championship in 2001, national championship game appearances in 2002 and 2013, and was named National Coach of the Year in 2001 (NJCFCA), 2002 (AFM/Schutt), and 2013 when he was named National Coach of the Year by both the AFCA and the NJCAA. Williams was inducted into the NJCAA Football Hall of Fame in 2010, the first active NJCAA coach to be so honored. He has also served as the NJCAA Football Coaches Association president and the ACCFCA president.
“All of us at 鶹ýPorn could not be more proud of this well-deserved recognition for Bert, and are so excited for his wife, Cathy and their two sons, Parker and Zach,” said Lieutenant General (Ret.) William B. Caldwell, IV, President of 鶹ýPorn. “It brings me great joy to know Coach Williams’ legacy will not only live on at 鶹ýPorn, but beyond in the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.”
The Junior College Football Program has continued to excel under the direction of Athletic Director and head football coach Rob Manchester, who worked with Williams for 17 years. As the only fully comprehensive Junior College Athletic Program in the State of Georgia that includes the only football program, and one of very few Junior College programs in the Southeastern United States, 鶹ýPorn remains focused on producing young men who benefit not only from playing football at 鶹ýPorn but also from the character and leader development programs that will make them future leaders in our communities.
The induction ceremony will be held Saturday evening, February 25th, at the historic Macon City Auditorium.
